Helen L. Walter, 88, of West Lafayette, formerly of Chalmers, died at 1:50 a.m. in St. Anthony Healthcare in Lafayette on Wednesday, May 13, 2009. She was born on October 27, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Mose and Mary Dower Curtis. She was a graduate of Berea High School in Ohio and attended Baldwin-Wallace College. Her marriage was to William E. Walter on October 6, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1996. Mrs. Walter was a homemaker, worked at Milner Company in Lafayette for five years and worked at the front desk of the Ramada Inn for 15 years until retiring. She attended Bethel Christian Life Center in West Lafayette and was a former member of the Prairie Promenader's, a square dance club in the Brookston area. She enjoyed gardening, her pets and attending the sporting events of her grandchildren. Surviving are her sons, Bill Walter (wife: Sandy) of Reynolds, Bruce C. Walter (wife: Sharon) of West Lafayette, and Robert P. Walter (wife: Vickie) of Lafayette; a daughter, Mary Anne Walter of Alaska and a sister, Dorothy Poole of Berea, Ohio. Helen loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Amanda, Matt, Stephen, Jennifer, Ethan and Janelle. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston. Pastor Ted Brust of Bethel Christian Life Center will officiate. Preceding her in death with her parents and husband is a sister, Peggy Keller and infant daughter, Bonnie Walter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Home for Friendless Animals and made during service times or mailed to the Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home (PO Box 509 Brookston, IN 47923).
