John E. Lockard, Jr., 66, of Smithville, Tennessee, formerly of the Northwest Indiana area, died at 6:13 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008 in Baptist Hospital of Nashville. He had been in failing health since 2006. He was born January 11, 1942 in Lebanon, Indiana to the late John E. and Naomi (Goad) Lockard. Mr. Lockard was a US Army Veteran serving six years. His marriage was to Cindy J. Schiesser on July 14, 1973 in Burns Harbor. She died November 17, 2006. He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation (Burns Harbor) in the 110 and 160 plate mill for most of his adult life. John enjoyed bowling, basketball, horse shoes, softball, playing guitar, making crafts and watching movies. Surviving are his children, Ricky E. Lockard of Valparaiso, Vicky Mills (husband: Alan) of Portage, Scott Lockard (wife: Yadira) of Valparaiso, Debbie Garner (husband: Eric) of Smithville, TN, Johnny E. Lockard III (wife: Brittany) of Smithville, TN; a brother, David Lockard of Monon and 17 grandchildren. Also surviving is Nathan Schiesser (wife: Gabrielle) who was like a son to John. Interment to follow a funeral meal at Palestine Cemetery (Wolcott, Indiana).
