Biographical Information:
Kelsey Rae Comer, 22, went to heaven at 10:39 a.m on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. She died
from injuries sustained when she was struck by a vehicle in Kokomo, Indiana.
Kelsey was born on March 13, 1989, at White County Memorial Hospital to Bruce and Kelly (Mathis) Comer. They reside in Monticello.
Kelsey was a good student who graduated from Twin Lakes H.S. in 2007 with academic honors. She played softball for many years, and she enjoyed playing the clarinet in band. She made many special memories with her band friends, including her fiance, Dean. Kelsey completed two years of college at Ivy Tech and then transferred to IUK to study elementary education. She was a senior set to graduate in December with honors and fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. At the time of her death, she was living in Kokomo with Dean, and she was employed at Wal-Mart pharmacy, having transferred there from the Monticello store. Kelsey was a lifelong member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.
Kelsey was engaged to be married in May 2012 to Dean Wallace Dilts, the love of her life. She and Dean had been together for five years, and Dean loved her with all his heart. They were best friends and soul mates. In five years, they never had an argument. Dean and Kelsey adopted a rescue dog together, Jolene. Before Kelsey is laid to rest, a private ring ceremony will be held for her and Dean to honor their unending love.
Kelsey was the adored big sister of Makenzie Comer and Dylan Comer. The three of them loved to laugh and play together. Makenzie and Dylan were looking forward to being the maid-of-honor and groomsman in Kelsey and Dean’s wedding.
Kelsey was a beautiful girl with a dazzling smile and bright sparkling blue eyes. She lit up a room with her presence. She loved everyone she met. She had a huge heart for children. She was endlessly patient with children with special needs. She sensed when others needed a lift and would send them random funny texts. She was a bright and shining light. She was an amazing girl who loved life. Kelsie's favorite thing to do was coloring with her Grandma Mathis, even at the age of 22.
Kelsey is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Rosalie Mathis of Kentland; paternal grandparents, Charles and Lois Comer of Medaryville; her aunt, Diana (Bill) Suhr of Idaville; her uncles, Brian (Mindy) Mathis of Morocco and Brian (Linda) Comer of Winamac; her special great aunt, Bev Ulyat of Plymouth; other loved great aunts, uncles, and cousins; her best friend and bridesmaid, Jessica Gamble; and Dean’s family, who became her second family: her future father-in-law, Thomas (Robin) Dilts of Logansport; future mother-in-law Teresa (Steven) Wilslef of Idaville; future sister-in-law, Brianna Dilts of Monticello; future grandparents-in-law Donald and Shirley Heiny of Idaville. Kelsey was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Walt Mathis. She was beloved by many friends, neighbors, co-workers, and her church family.
Friends and loved ones may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello. Services will be held there at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, with Pastor Brian Beeks officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery in rural Monticello. Kelsey will be taken to her final resting place in a horse-drawn carriage accompanied by Dean, just as they would have ridden together to their wedding.
Memorials may be given to the family in Kelsey’s honor. Bruce and Kelly will be dividing the donations between a college fund for Kelsey’s siblings, the Kokomo Humane Society, and the Meadowlawn Elementary Student Fund. It was very important to Kelsey that Makenzie and Dylan go to college. She would be happy knowing that others honored her memory to by supporting animals and children.
