Jerry Frank Speer Sr.,70, of Reynolds/Wolcott, passed away at 10 PM, Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born November 1, 1947 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital of Lafayette to the late Frank and Alice Speer.

He was a 1967 graduate of Frontier High School. His marriage of 41 years was to Velma I. Griffin on June 6, 1976 in the First Baptist Church of Wolcott. She preceded him in death in August of 2017.

Jerry and Velma were blessed with three children, Terry A. Speer, Jerry F. Speer Junior, and Connie J. Billings.

Jerry was employed at RCA Cabinet factory of Monticello until its closure. After RCA, Jerry went to Bassett’s Rotary Tool and then later retired from Dwyer Instruments of Wolcott in 2012.

Jerry enjoyed spending his time fishing, archery, camping, spending time with friends and family, and most of all time with his granddaughters and new kitten, Ratchet.

Surviving with Jerry Speer Jr. and Connie J. Billings are grandchildren, Hannah D. Billings and Olivia G. Billings of Lafayette. Also surviving are siblings, Bonnie Gupil and Larry Speer; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death along with his parents and wife is a son, Terry A. Speer; siblings, Randy Speer, Dwight Speer, Sandy Madge, and Chuck Speer.

Friends may call from 4-8 PM (EST) Friday, March 16, 2018 at Foster-Clapper Funeral Home of Wolcott. Funeral Service 10 AM (EST) Saturday, March 17, 2018 also at Foster-Clapper Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds to officiate. Interment to follow in Osborne Cemetery.
