Teresa J. VanMeter, 69, of Lafayette passed away at 8:23 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at IU Health in Lafayette.

 

She was born May 4, 1948 to the late Melvin and Minnie Lee (Martin) Brown Kerfoot and was a graduate of Frontier high school.

 

Janie grew up in White County, IN and raised her two girls in Lafayette with her husband Arlis Dru VanMeter. She retired from the BMV and as a nanny. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader for several years. She never met a stranger. She loved to sit on her front porch and visit with the neighbors. She had many close friends over the years, too many to mention.

 

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her life, from going to swim meets and gymnastic competitions to choir performances, singing and dancing, as well as creating beautiful artwork. Her grand and great-grand kids kept her busy.

She enjoyed spending her days with them and her many trips to Riley Hospital. Urijah Dru was blessed to this family by God and was destined to change lives. He brought a special spark to Janie's life and was her world, her life forever changed.

 

Her daughter's friends enjoyed and adored her as she was often known as "Mama Janie".

 

She loved family get-togethers and especially cookouts on the grill. Her butterfingers were always close at hand and when out to town she would have to get a McDonald's Coke and a banana split.

 

Everyone loved her big personality and even bigger laugh. When getting together with her brothers, they would often laugh and reminisce about old times, and there was never a shortage of jokes. She also had several nieces and nephews that she was proud of.

 

Rest in Peace, We love you all the way to Heaven Mom.

She is survived by her daughters, Kara (Scott) Dause, and Amanda VanMeter; her brothers, Melvin (Andy) Kerfoot III, Kendall (Amy) Kerfoot, and Rex (Deb) Kerfoot; grandchildren, Jason (Daisy) VanMeter, Audrey Dause, Kylee Street, Clayton Street, and Ashlyn Dause; and great-grandchildren, Urijah and Rhylin Crable.

 
A private graveside service will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brookston I.O.O.F Cemetery.
