Merle O. “Sonny” Wayne, 64, of Monon, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at his residence. He was born February 25, 1953 in Mannheim, Germany to the late Charles B. and Eva K. (Korn) Wayne. He was a 1971 graduate of North White High School. Sonny served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.

His marriage was to Vicki Hammond on May 8, 1999 in Monon, she survives. He was a member of the Monon Eagles Lodge, and American Legion of Monon and most recently, Monticello.

Sonny drove for Nu-Way Transportation of Bloomington, IL for the last 9 years. He enjoyed spending his time working on small engines in the garage, racing of any kind, and time with family and friends.

Surviving along with his wife are children, Charles (Kimberlee) McCall of Monon, Eric Lee (Kristine) McCall of West Lafayette, and Karla Kalleen Wayne of Bowling Green, KY. Also surviving is a brother, Robert (Barbara) Wayne of Monon and 7 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death along with his parents is a sister, Kathy Priest.

Friends may call from 1 PM (EST) until the time of Funeral Service 3 PM (EST) Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Monon Community Church Assembly of God. Pastors Don and Mark Newman to officiate. Inurnment will be held at Bedford Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sonny’s name to Monon Community Church Assembly of God.
