Leona M. Burton, 87, of Brookston, passed away at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, November 13, 2016 at St. Anthony Healthcare in Lafayette.

She was born June 23, 1929 in Lafayette to the late Stanley and Elsie (Yarno) Vessels.

Her marriage was to Robert D. Burton on September 29, 1951 in Fowler, Indiana; he died in January of 1997.

  Leona enjoyed painting, her dog Snickers, watching westerns, camping, cooking homemade noodles and playing cards.

Surviving are two sons, Gary Burton (wife: Vivian) of Brookston and Dave Burton (wife: Julie) of Boswell; a daughter, Mary Hasser (husband: Ralph) of Brookston and two brothers, Don Vessels of Pine Village and Bob Vessels (wife: Joan) of Crawfordsville. Leona loved spending time with her family, especially her 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Family was the most important thing.

Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are two brothers Joseph and Wayne Vessels.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral service there 10 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2016 with Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate. Interment to follow at Earl Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Almost Home Humane Society or the White County Food Pantry
