Irene Turnpaugh, 93, of Kentland, passed away at 6:56 AM August 23, 2016 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital of Lafayette, IN. She was born May 18, 1923 in Decatur, IL to the late Oscar and Foxie (Stigell) Flynn. Irene spent her earlier life in Bronston, KY area.

 

Her first marriage was to Thomas Stutesman on May 22, 1943 in Remington. She later married Eugene Turnpaugh on May 20, 1991in Pulaski County, KY; he preceded her in death on April 3, 1995.

 

Irene worked at George Ade Hospital as a Nurses Aid, she also waitressed at Union 76 Truck Stop in Remington. Irene enjoyed spending her time gardening, tending to her flowers, watching birds, squirrels, bunnies, sewing, knitting, and was a very good cook. Irene enjoyed her cat Leo. She was a hard worker her entire life and known for her famous back rubs.

 

She is survived by her children, Roger W. Stutesman of Boerne, TX, Judy A. (Larry) Hayes of Mesa, AZ, Cathy J. (Mike) Pacheco of Nogales, AZ, and Lori L. Stutesman of Kentland, IN. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

 

Irene is preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

 

Friends may call from 1 PM (CST) until the time of funeral service 2 PM (CST) Friday, August 26, 2016 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland. Rick Gerts to officiate. Interment to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery of Kentland.

 

Memorial donations may be in Irene’s name to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
