Eunice Colleen Young, 84, of Brookston, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, January 24, 2016 at her daughters home in Monticello.

She was born June 2, 1931 in Chalmers to the late Manden Cecil and Alyne (Hicks) Lucas and was a 1949 graduate of Chalmers High School.

Her marriage was to Kenneth Allen Young on June 17, 1949 in Michigan City, Indiana. He died December 31, 1991.

She and her husband lived in Benton County and farmed for 42 years. She moved to Brookston in 1993.

Colleen was a longtime member of the Brookston United Methodist Church and loved her church family and friends. Her life was full spiritually and she had volumes of prayers in journals written in her own hand. Sending homemade crosses in hundreds of get well cards, Colleen was an inspiration through her kindness and concern for others. She loved to play the gathering music on the piano at church and loved to paint pictures as well.

Surviving are children, Belinda Gutwein (E. Edward), Bryan Young (Janet), Bruce Young (Alice) and a sister, Debra Herget (husband: Steve). Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jeri Ann Beasley (Doug), Jason Young, Angela Sondgeroth (Jason), Andrew Young (Alyesha), Christopher Young (Kayla), Aaron Gutwein (Alicia), Ross Gutwein and Paige Gutwein and her 13 great-grandchildren, Joel, Josh, and Jerid Beasley, Jakeb, Jannes, and Jaylen Young, Ellie, Joe, and Kate Sondgeroth, Grayson and Tristan Gutwein, and Bella and Bryson Young.

Preceding her in death with her parents and husband is a son, Blaine Young and two brothers, Royce Lucas and John Vincent (J.V.) Lucas.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Brookston United Methodist Church; Pastor Devin Cook and Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate. Private interment to be held at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Brookston United Methodist Church.
