Dorothy Lucille Kiester, 101, of Delphi, died at 11:19 pm, Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare of Delphi. She was born August 14, 1913 in Fort Wayne to the late John and Kate Nettie (Burch) Hively. She graduated in 1931 from high school in Boulder, CO and earned her Associates Degree in Accounting in Denver, Colorado in 1933. In June 1939, she married the love of her life, Vernon M. Kiester in Goshen, IN. Vernon preceded her in death on March 17, 1985. Dorothy and Vernon were past members of the Eagle and Moose Lodges and were owners and accountants of American Finance Company. Dorothy enjoyed eating out at restaurants and traveling. She and Vernon would take the grandkids on a trip every summer, which enabled them to visit 48 of the 50 states. Dorothy and Vernon were always together, they loved being outdoors and working outside. They built their home on the lake together with their own hands. Family was of the utmost importance and spending time with family is what Dorothy cherished the most in life. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Esther Kiester of Monon; grandchildren, Kent (Kathy) Kiester of Monon, Karyn McDaniel of Beijing, China; 4 great granchildren, Emily and Ellen Thalls, and their father, Todd Thalls, Kristal (Eric) Gramelspacher, and Kevin (Melissa) Kiester; 7 great-great grandchildren, Coral, Colby, Gabby, David and Addison Gramelspacher, and McKenzie and Kaleb Kiester, along with Kaleb's mother, Meagan Edwards. Along with her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald F. Kiester on March 19, 1982; 2 sisters, Ethel Walters and Bea Michaels; and 1 brother, Sylvan Hively.
