Erdean D. Melvin age 73 of Kentland died at 6:15 pm, January 5, 2015 at IU Arnett Medical Center, Lafayette, Indiana. She was born June 30, 1941 in Delmar, Kentucky to the late Lee and Sophie (Hislope) Dunagan. Erdean attended Earl Park High School, Earl Park, Indiana. Her marriage was to R. Larry Melvin on April 2,1971 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, he survives. Erdean lived in Newton County for 41 years and worked at Home Furnishings in Kentland for 30 years retiring April 2004. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Kentland, Indiana. Erdean loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also working in her yard. She is survived by her husband R. Larry Melvin of Kentland, IN. A son, Jim Strack (wife: Carol) of Somerset, KY; a daughter Deb Shufflebarger ( companion: Randy Wiite) of Goodland, IN and a step-son Ron Melvin of Las Vegas, NV. Four grandsons, Josh Shufflebarger (wife: Megan) , Jacob Shufflebarger (wife: Becca) and Jared Shufflebarger all of Kentland, IN and Christian Strack of Somerset, KY. A granddaughter Sara Iseminger (husband: Derek) of Remington, IN. Four great-grandsons, Coltyn Shufflebarger, Dawson and Dylan Iseminger, and Jace Shufflebarger. Three great-granddaughters, Madlynn Iseminger, Sophia and Kinley Shufflebarger. A sister, Annie Schluttenhofer (husband: Steve) of Goodland, IN and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 6-8 pm at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Kentland, IN. Funeral services will be Friday, January 9, 2015 at 12:30 pm at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Kentland, IN. Reverend Ed van Wijk officiating. Burial at Fairlawn Cemetery, Kentland, IN.. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Kentland, IN.
