Rose Helen White, 91, of Avilla, formerly of Kentland and Bonita Springs, FL, died at 11:05 am, Monday, June 09, 2014 at Provena Sacred Heart Nursing Home in Avilla. She was born on May 13, 1923 in Appalachia, VA to the late George and Mobile (Wolfe) Carter Sr. She was a 1941 graduate of Earl Park High School. Rose married Wayne Lohr in October 1942. The couple had one child, Carter Lohr. They later divorced and Wayne preceded her in death in Feb 1990. In June 1960, Rose married John White. He preceded her in death in September 2006. During the 1960's, 70's, 80's, Rose worked at just about every restaurant in Kentland waiting tables. Rose was a very hard and loyal worker. She enjoyed playing golf and was a terrific cook and she made the best potato salad this side of the Rocky Mountains. She is survived by her son, Carter Lohr (wife: Kathy); 2 granddaughters, Kathi Burke (husband: Robert) of West Lafayette and Kari Lyons of Fort Wayne; 5 great-grandchildren, Sam Bruening, Evan, Aaron, and Brynn Lyons of Fort Wayne and Angeline Burke of West Lafayette; 2 sisters, Elnora McDonald of Monticello and Mary Jo Minier of Monticello; 2 brothers, Robert Carter of Monticello and Bill Carter of Hammond; 2 nieces, Mary Ellen Minier of Monticello and Cindy Hanish of Hammond; and 2 nephews, Scott Minier of Indianapolis and Greg Minier of Dallas, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mobile (Wolfe) Carter Sr.; husband, John White; husband, Wayne Lohr, and a brother George Carter Jr. Friends and Family may call from 1 pm (CST) until time of service at 3 pm (CST), Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home in Kentland.
