A. Maxine Smith
March 23, 1919 - March 18, 2011
A. Maxine Smith, 91, passed away peacefully at 12:50 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Wesley Manor in Frankfort. She was born March 23, 1919 in Warren County to the late Earl and Hazel Turner; she was a 1936 graduate of Ambia High School. Maxine married James Ronald "Ronnie" Smith on December 9, 1939 and together raised their son Donnie as long-time residents of Boswell, Indiana. Maxine's faith, family and friends were the priorities of her life. She was a dedicated member of the Boswell United Methodist Church where she volunteered in a number of capacities: a Sunday school teacher for over 35 years; church treasurer for 45 years; and served as the janitor from 1973 to 2002. She also was active in the Church's woman's group and enjoyed chairing the committee for funeral dinners; served as a member of the Finance committee; and as a member of the Memorial Committee. Maxine also previously volunteered her time as secretary for the Boswell Cemetery and the Library Board. Family and friends know well how important being a mother, grandmother and homemaker were to Maxine as she took great pride in providing a beautiful home and yard for her family. She was an amazing cook - ask anyone who ever had a piece of her chocolate cream pie. A homemaker, she enjoyed reading, watching IU baseball, playing bunko with her friends, and vacationing at Fairfield Glade in TN. Maxine moved to Wesley Manor in Frankfort in October of 2005, where she established many new friendships. Maxine loved to walk and never met a stranger. She will be remembered for her kindness to others and will be deeply missed. Those cherishing her memory include: her loving son, Donnie "Smitty" (wife Sandy) of Greenwood; sisters, Helen Grogan of Valparaiso and Wilma Powell of Williamsport; a brother Gerald "Shorty" Turner of Davenport, Iowa; 4 grandchildren Todd Smith (Charme); Tracy Smith (Jaime); Tania Johnson (Reggie); and Trent Smith (Lori); and 10 great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Ronnie and three brothers Harold, Maynard and Gale Turner. Family and friends will gather on March 21, 2011 at Boswell United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. (EST) until the service at 1 p.m; Rev. Charles Anderson officiate. Interment to follow at the Boswell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Guardian Angel Hospice.
