Evaleen (Evie) Couch, 77, of Kentland, passed away September 11, 2010 at the Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer. She was born October 3, 1932 in Brook, the daughter of Arthur and Mittie (Bill) Watt and was a graduate of Morocco High School. On November 27, 1974 she married James H. Couch and he survives. Evie worked as a waitress and for many years at Dormyer Industries and Viskase Corporation, both in Kentland. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 23 and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, both in Kentland. Surviving with her husband are three daughters; Sally Conn of Brook, Sue Voigt of Lake Village and Lorrie Swartz (husband: Kenny) of Fair Oaks; a son, Scott Hanger (wife: Nikki) of Lake Village, and a son-in-law, Jeff LaCosse of Morocco. Also surviving are a step son, Jim Couch (wife: Kathy) of Raub, a step daughter, Kathy Holloway (husband: Curt) of Kentland; two sisters, Mary Brown of Lafayette and Kathleen (Katie) Styck (husband: Richard) of Rensselaer; two brothers, Robert Watt of Kentland and Donald Watt of Rensselaer; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Watt. Sixteen grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Chris Lacosse; a sister, Lois Hoeferlin; and a brother, James Watt. Friends may call Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm CDT at the Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11:00 am CDT at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kentland, Father Robert Bernotas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Evaleen's memory to the American Legion Post 23 of Kentland.
