Altie L. Walker, 74, of Chalmers, died at 1:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth, Indiana. She was born June 7, 1936 in Tazewell, Tennessee to the late Earnest and Amy Brooks. She graduated from Claiborne High School. Her marriage was to Charles Nelson Walker on January 23, 1954 in New Tazewell, Tennessee, and he survives. Mrs. Walker lived in Tennessee before moving to Chalmers in 1958. She was employed by NBC for over ten years, and she also worked for RCA and Bryan's. She enjoyed playing Bunco, tending to her flowers, and her dog "Joy." Surviving with her husband are four sons, Mac Walker of Brookston, Charlie Walker (wife: Pat) of Tazewell, Tennessee, Robert "Tony" Walker (wife: Cathy) of Rensselaer, Phillip "Grub" Walker of Chalmers, a brother, Lloyd Brooks (wife: Darlis) of Luthersville, Georgia, and three sisters, Anna Mae Cunningham and Ada Bolden both of Tazewell, and Mildred Lunsford of Luthersville, Georgia. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Matt, Tonya, Nichole, David, and C.J., and numerous great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by a son, Raymond Walker, two sisters, Jean Beeson and Ocie Lord, a granddaughter, Cassie Walker, and two grandsons, Joshua and Justin Walker. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston. Service there 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010; Pastor Joe Hornick to officiate. Interment will follow in Chalmers Community Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Chalmers Community Cemetery.
