John C. Marvin, 69, of Brookston, died at 2:25 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2010 at his residence. He was born May 2, 1941 in Idaville, Indiana to the late James and Rosemary Holeman Marvin. He graduated from Idaville High School in 1959 and attended barber school. His marriage was to Marilyn Brown Conkright on March 5, 1992 in Indianapolis. She survives. Mr. Marvin was a member of Federated Church in Brookston. He owned and operated OK Barber Shop in Flora and worked in the automotive industry for many years in Flora and Indianapolis. John loved his family and his cats, he was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard, and John Deere tractors. John cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, and enjoyed attending their sporting events. Surviving with his wife is a son, Barry Marvin (wife: Christine) of Cutler, a daughter, Julie Rupert (husband: Dennis) of Kokomo, two stepchildren, Douglas Conkright (wife: Debbie) of New Concord, Ky., Peggy Blue (husband: Glenn) of Wrightsville, Pa., and a brother, Jim Marvin (wife: Marjean) of Idaville. Also surviving are six grandchildren. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Monday, August 9, 2010 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston. Services there at 1 pm, Tuesday, August 10, 2010; Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Creek Cemetery in Brookston. Memorial donations may be made in memory of John to Federated Church in Brookston and The American Cancer Society.
