March 1, 1955 - October 31, 2009

David Patrick "Bogie" Bogan, 54, of Chalmers, died at 7:18 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009 in his home surrounded by his family and friends. He had been battling renal cancer. He was born March 1, 1955 to Donald L. and Marilyn F. (Eckman) Bogan. He was a 1973 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. He married Betsy J. (Hainje) Goetz on July 19, 1998 in Battle Ground. She survives. Mr. Bogan was the Chalmers Fire Chief. He also owned and operated Bogie's Chalmers Pub in Chalmers, Indiana and was former owner of Bogie's Stogies Cigar Shop in Lafayette. He had previously worked for Bob Rohrman Auto Group, Teamster's Local 543, Faubers Construction, Wanatah Trucking and Alcoa. He was a member of the Brookston/Chalmers First Responders, Indiana Fire Chiefs Association and Federal Emergency Management Administration. He enjoyed Purdue athletics and the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of the Downforce IRL fan club and official member of the Tony Stewart fan club. Surviving with his mother and wife are his children, Jennifer Lynn Bogan, Daniel Patrick Bogan (wife: Jaime), Marianne Bogan all of Lafayette, Jim Goetz (wife: Melissa) of Indianapolis and Amy Nelson (husband: Doug) of Brownsburg, and his sister Donna J. Anderson (husband: Larry) of Lafayette. Preceding him in death is his father, Donald, in 2001. Bogie was a dreamer who saw many of those dreams realized with his wife Betsy. He accomplished a lifelong goal of becoming a firefighter. Owning the Chalmers Pub allowed him to share his life with friends and customers. He had so many wonderful friends including Art & Marcia Richey, Lawrence & Nancy Parrott and countless others. His love for children played a huge role in who he was and his grandchildren Tracy, Ryan, Sarah, Cody, Emma, Taylor, Katie and Michael were the light of his life. Also surviving is a special nephew, Jeremy Stockdale. He was well known to play Santa for the fire department during the holidays and also was a certified clown who did a wonderful Emit Kelly impersonation.
