Alice R. Penrod, 76, of Lafayette, died at 6:58 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. She was born on October 26, 1932 to the late Edward and Blanche (Fleener) Velten. She was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. Her marriage was to John "Jack" Penrod on April 10, 1953 in Logansport. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1991. She worked at Purdue University as a secretary to the Director of the Computing Center (Technology Department), retiring in 1997. After retirement, she worked part-time at Kohl's Department Store for 5 years. Alice was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, shopping, crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her family. Surviving are her children, Brad Penrod (wife: Candy) of Lafayette and Susie Gretencord (husband: Rick) of Oxford; a brother, James Velten (wife: Marie) of Fort Wayne; and her twin sister, Agnes Adwell of Sun City, Arizona. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Sarah and Adam McGlothlin, Jason and Ryan Penrod and Austin and Jacob Gretencord. Preceding her in death is a daughter, Kim (McGlothlin) Utterback; 2 sisters, Mary Clodjeaux and Margaret (Peggy) Barr; and a nephew, Bob Clodjeaux. Rosary service 4:45 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston with calling to follow from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral mass 10 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church (1916 Meharry, Lafayette); Rev. Daniel B. Gartland to officiate. Interment to follow in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Lafayette. Memorial donations may be made in her name towards the St. Lawrence Social Hall fund.
