Dorothy L. Henderson, 97, of Lafayette, died at 6:36 a.m. Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Lafayette Home Hospital. She had suffered a stroke on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. She was born March 3, 1912 in Lafayette to the late Louis E. and Mary (Gibson) Young. She was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. Her marriage was to Joseph C. Henderson on June 6, 1934 in Lafayette. He preceded her in death in November of 1989. Mrs. Henderson worked in the payroll department and was insurance benefits coordinator at Purdue University where she retired in 1976. She was a member of Brown Street United Methodist Church and was a former 68 year member of the Hope Chapter #5 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and spending time with her family. Surviving are two sons, Louis E. "Gene" Henderson (wife: Hannelore) of Clarksville, Tennessee and James C. Henderson of Lafayette. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Private graveside services to be held Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Spring Vale Cemetery, Lafayette. Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
