Mary Jane Stokes, 99, of Delphi and formerly of Brookston, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Facility in Delphi. She had been a resident there for the past six years. She was born Aug. 29, 1909, in Carroll County, to the late Elmer and Della E. Pugh Irelan. She was a 1928 graduate of Adams Township High School. Her marriage was to Elmer Stokes on March 11, 1932, in Delphi. He died June 12, 1964. Mrs. Stokes was a homemaker and also provided in home health assistance for many individual. She enjoyed reading the bible. Surviving is a sister, Anna Bilyeu of Monticello. Also surviving are two daughters-in-law, Beverly Stokes of Valparaiso and Carolyn Stokes of Brookston; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were 2 sons, Raymond and Fred Stokes; 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 2008, in Brookston Church of Christ. Interment to follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
