Lula E. Hayes, 79, of Indianapolis, a long time resident of Monon, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2008, in Wishard Hospital. She had not recovered from a fall taken one week ago. She was born October 11, 1928 in New Castle to the late Jake and Clara Dellinger. Her marriage was to James Hayes. He died in 1992. Mrs. Hayes worked for Annis Grocery in Monon for 42 years. She attended Speedway Church of the Nazarene in Indianapolis and was a charter member of Monon Community Church Assembly of God. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo and spending time with her family. Surviving are a son, Dennis Downs of Knoxville, TN; two daughters, Debra Hunt of Indianapolis and Carolyn Harper (husband: John) of Monon; 4 brothers, John Dellinger (wife: Gertrude), Thomas Dellinger (wife: Donna), Larry Dellinger and Russell Dellinger all of New Castle, and 3 sisters, Bertha Stillabower and Alice Barnett of Indianapolis and Irene Sanders of Greencastle. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Julie Byroad, Michael Harper, Jamie Downs, and Madison Downs and 4 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2008, in Monon Community Church and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Monon Community Church Assembly of God (75 East State Road 16).
