Rachel Anna Scarborough Reading, 86, of West Lafayette, formerly of South San Francisco, California, died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at George Davis Manor. She was born August 17, 1921 in Alleene, Arkansas to the late Eugene and Beulah Mable Norwood Scarborough. She graduated from Foreman High School in 1939 and then Beauty Academy afterwards. Her marriage was to Floyd Reid in 1943. She owned and operated Rachel's Beauty Salon in San Francisco for 25 years, the last 20 also doing electrolysis. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and also AARP. She was a beautiful seamstress and made most of the family clothes. She also enjoyed Big Band Ballroom Dancing in San Francisco with her daughter. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in South San Francisco. Surviving is her daughter, Ann Malaska of Battle Ground and her 3 sisters, Lena Brooks and Bettye Killham of Ashdown, Arkansas and Marie Zarnock of Pacifica, California. Graveside funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Liberty Chapel Cemetery, West Lafayette. Preceding her in death with her parents and husband are 2 brothers, Kalvin & Kelsey Scarborough. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association.
