Joyce R. Williams, 78, of Brookston, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Lafayette Home Hospital. She had been in poor health since February of this year. She was born July 29, 1929 in Jasper County to the late William and Viola Mae (Turner) Thornberry. She was a 1947 graduate of Medaryville High School. She married Kenneth D. Williams in September of 1976 in Valparaiso. He died May 14, 1990. Mrs. Williams was a bookkeeper for Halstead Implement for many years retiring in the late 1980's. Previously, she was a testing administrator for St. Joseph College in Rensselaer where she was the schools' first non-Catholic employee. She was a member of the Brookston Federated Church and former member of the Psi Iota Xi sorority in Brookston. Joyce loved to play golf. She also enjoyed reading and watching television and was a very good cook. Surviving is a daughter, Cindie Gosnell of Brookston. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home, Brookston. Service there 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008; the Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds will officiate. Interment to follow in Brookston IOOF Cemetery. Preceding her in death is a sister Mildred Wright.
