Biographical Information:
Betty was a member of the Monticello Christian Church of Monticello and had served as the Monticello Christian Church Assistant Financial Secretary for several years. She was also a member of the Chancel Choir, had served as the chairperson of the Stewardship Committee, chairperson of the Deaconesses, building fund committee, and had served as a pianist. Betty's talent for music was evident in the early years of her life. At the age of thirteen (13) she was playing the piano for several local county churches for special occasions or on Sunday morning services. She in addition, directed the Adult and Children's Choir and taught Sunday School in a previous church. Betty has spent her entire life in the Monticello community. She was born and raised on a farm near Brookston and graduated from Chalmers High School. Betty attended Lafayette Business College which prepared her for a working career. She worked in the White County Health Department office, and the offices of Dr. Beck and Dr. Bougher. Betty states that she has known her husband Paul, all of her life. Paul and Betty's families attended the same church and they were acquaninted with each other from grade school through high school. She grew up helping her father with all the farm chores. By the age of twelve (12) , Betty, had decided that she did not want to marry a farmer. However, on September 10, 1954, she married her lifetime friend who happened to like farming!! Betty and Paul settled on a farm in White County to raise their children. Grandchildren, James "JJ", Clif and Kevin "Chance", Nicholas "Nick", Miranda, and Ashlee, were all baptised at the Monticello Christian Church, which gave all the family great joy. Of course, her hobbies include music, listening to, playing, or singing. She enjoyes gospel hyms, classical, or listening to songs recorded by Jim Reeves, Eddie Arnold, and those great 50's tunes. Betty and Paul enjoyed square dancing and were members of a square dancing team for many years. Betty's favorite movies include old time favorites starring Gregory Peck, Spencer Tracey, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda. She has devoted her life to her husband, her faith, her church, and her famiy. On Sunday mornings you could see Betty singing in the choir and on Monday mornings you used to find her and Edie Hess counting and recording monies for the Monticello Christian Church. Betty lived her deep-rooted Biblical values, morals, and intergrity as she served the Lord so faithfully.
